» UNDERSTANDING THE WAYS OF GOD SERIES (PART 2)

ARE YOU A “LOT” OR ELISHA?
God has not left us without hope or avenues of insight to help us in very area of life to know what to do at anytime. His Word and Spirit are sure helps in these last days. In His Word we see various character traits and personalities that help us know what to do when faced with similar situations. As we look into these lives let us remember that their circumstances are for our ensample and their responses were for our learning. They did not have the range of choices we have today. They were in the heat of situations and may never have read about anybody in their type of situation. We have this edge over them and our freedom to choose our responses to events in our lives is our greatest asset. It amazes me to know that all the circumstances in our lives can be traced in the bible. We are left with every opportunity to make the right decisions all the time.

Abram’s drama with God started in Genesis chapter 12. God’s instructions were clear and His promises were based upon the condition of obedience. The unfolding drama, with all its intrigues, holds many insights for us. Terah, Abram’s father, died in Haran. Haran was a stop over on the way to Canaan’s land. The name of one of Terah’s sons was Haran, and he was the father of Lot. Lot went with Abram on the journey to destiny. God wanted Abram to separate himself from his country, family and more specifically father’s house. Rather he went with Lot. Emotional and familial ties usually get carried along with us on our journey to destiny. Somehow, separations are necessary for some things to be accomplished in our lives especially from our family members. God’s programme goes on and the conflicts begin to show up amongst their herdsmen. It is worthy of note to observe that Egypt was the place where Abram picked up Hagar, the female servant that had Ishmael for her master. It was the place where Abram called Sarai his sister not wife. He got the material blessing of the place plus the potentially explosive addition of a female servant, Hagar. This was God’s man of the hour.

Lot seem to just hang on to the man. Lot was not aware of certain things.

You need to recognise what God is doing in your time and in and around you. Who is the channel of God around you? Are you aware of what God is doing? Do you how to relate to your God-given connection? Many people do not even know that God still does such things. Whoever causes the baby of your womb to jump is somewhat connected to your destiny. Your people in the spirit are those who are your spiritual tribesmen. They belong to your spiritual family. In that family there are different levels of maturity. A major in the army is surely higher ranked that a sergeant. For every one of us, one ranked higher in the family is a big link for us in God. That is your man of God if you can build such relationship with the grace on that one. Now God can use different people to activate different dimensions of grace in you but He settles you in families and households. Pray that God will bring you to your own spiritual tribe. (Deut. 33:7).

Lot missed out. He allowed strife and then used his senses to judge where was best for him and his family. God knows what He has, for you, as an inheritance, let Him lead you. (Gen.13). After, the separation, God now spoke to Abram to look up and see how much He had in store for him. As far as his eyes could see! May we be enabled to see clearly what is ours in God. Sometimes we do not see because some things we hold unto prevent our seeing accurately. The man who moves by sight may see what looks good today but has no clue as to what the next day holds. The one who looks by faith (based on obedience) in the covenant will see what is guaranteed today and forever.

Elisha, on the other hand, experienced some form of rejection when he was first called but went on to stay close to his man of God. He received a double portion of the spirit of Elijah because he stayed faithful, serving and focussed. It all starts with recognition of the role of that individual in your life. Your willingness to serve God’s purposes in that person’s life and finally being focussed without allowing distractions will help you. Read 2 Kings 2. The thing about it all is that a faithful spirit will stay faithful to God and man. A focussed person will stay focussed on God and on the relationship God has ordained. One with a servant heart will serve God by serving those to whom God calls them to serve. When you are principled in your dealings and do not tolerate the things of the flesh, the reasoning of the unrenewed mind and the distractions of the world, you are set to accomplish great things for God.
