In our destiny walk there are two dimensions to the overall picture: the God part and our part. The sovereign Lord surely has a plan for your life and there are no mistakes with God. You have your part to play and there are many other issues that play various parts. Every event has the two sides: God’s part and yours. God chooses, calls, anoints, appoints and sends. He chooses your training, your gifting, your environment and generally all the areas you had no control over. Your type of temperament and a host of things you have discovered about your life. The events of your life that are not your making, like the choice of who your parents are and how they brought you up, Jehovah who sees knows everything. All we need to do is to believe that He knows and He will do what He wills no matter what. We need to accept what we cannot change then give our all to Him and watch Him turn things around. Some people live in denial of what they really are and to worsen it all think they are in faith while in denial. Faith does not deny what we are or what has happened, it just does not allow a negative thing to dominate or determine the future. Rather we allow the will and Word of God to be the determining factors where our future is concerned. If Joseph wondered why he was experiencing such rejection from his brothers and got angry with God for allowing it to happen to him, he might have allowed bitterness to set in. He was meek enough to recognize that whatever happened to him was usable by God and he maintained a good attitude of faith and joy. How we respond to the things that happen to us determines the final outcome of our lives far more than the things that happen to us. It is what happens in us that is most important in our destiny walk. In Genesis chapter 37, 39-41, we see how Joseph must have accepted the God part of his destiny walk with a positive attitude. I believe such attitudes are a product of a genuine walk with God that produces insights or revelations that are not readily visible to on-lookers and sympathizers. Such intimacy produces stability in the midst of confusing and trying times. Joseph accepted his lot in Potiphar’s house as a slave; he served joyfully and was promoted because God was with him. He accepted his lot as a prisoner who was wrongly put in prison for an offence he did not commit. That did not break his walk with God. He must have had such a depth in God that he still felt good about God and still served people. The way he forgave his brothers also speaks of his acceptance of his lot in God. The second side to the coin is found in the story of David and Goliath. This time David took the battle to the gates of the enemy; he did something, engaging his gifts, calling and skill to see God’s will fulfilled. 1 Samuel chapter 16 is an eye-opening read to see how David had confidence in the God he had spent time cultivating a relationship with. God was so big inside David that the 9-foot giant looked small to him. Others saw the giant as too big to handle, David saw him as too big to miss. David believed in and engaged his God-given talents, skills and covenant privileges. It is the proper engagement of these things within the context of God's will, recognizing other factors like timing and purpose for all these that constitute the second side of the coin in our destiny walk. For David it was a war of words, dealing with the spirit of fear with faith filled words. David recognized his covenant position and the giant's lack in that area. He celebrated his victories over the lion and the bear, giving God glory for them. (Many will take the credit for the uncelebrated victories in their lives, eating some ego-food). David must have felt alone but with a great awareness of God with him. He used what he had. Many do not value what they have enough to use it to face their challenges. They always feel they do not have what it takes to win. Finally, David demonstrated greater confidence in his proven armour than Saul's offer. God will not use the rod of Moses to kill David's giant, what you have, when given to God will be used to kill your giant. Your victory will release others to victory. Go ahead and walk in victory in Jesus' name. Rev Kola Ewuosho
