Anytime we have a difficulty in doing what is right, or what is expected of us, we say we have a problem. Whenever we face a challenge that demands a price be paid to solve, resolve or reconcile, we say we have a problem. An obstacle or handicap to overcome, a limitation to exceed, and riddle to solve; all these define what we call problems. They may be relational, physical, social, mental or spiritual. Life is filled with problems; in fact overcoming problems is a way to describe a successful life. The attempt at solving problems has characterised the victorious history of mankind. Heroes are known through their heroic ability to solve problems. A man’s size is known by the size of problems he can solve.

What are your problems? They are the doors of greatness that await your entry. They are a revelation of the size of your potentials. They are the opportunities for growth that life presents you. They represent areas of your life where growth, development and discoveries lie. The bible says seek, knock and ask. Some problems are solves by seeking the truth of the matter, or by confronting some issues in your heart and sometimes with others. Problems represent areas of your life that need adjusting, investigating and examination. The longer the problem persists, the more you can learn from it. Please take the pains to learn the right lessons.

Problems are for solving and mountains are for climbing. The higher the mountain, the greater the thrill of climbing to the top of it. The bigger and tougher the problem, the more the excitement at solving it. Our attitudes towards the problems we face determine how we will turn out in the face of the problem. Life seems to hide its meaning behind the problems we face. Every problem seems to have a meaning and a message to convey to us. Solutions to problems reveal the many-sided lessons of wisdom in life.

There are steps to solving any problem. The first step is to know the problem as it actually is not as you want it to be. A new identity represents a new authority. The problem places a demand on your unseen potentials to come into manifestation. Every problem has a solution, all we need to be able to come up with that solution. This is only possible if we are willing to pay the price to get the solution. If we cultivate habits that keep us in line with a developmental programme that positions us to solve problems, we will be rising above our problems all the time. The problems become stepping stones to victory rather than stumbling stones to failure. Problems allow the great ones to rise and little ones fade out with their problems. We should let our problems become opportunities for growth and development in every area of life. There is a price to pay and a position to take for the privileges to enjoy in life. The choice of when we pay the price is ours. Some pay now and play later; others play now and pay later. Nothing good just happens without someone paying the price. If you are enjoying what you did not pay for, someone else paid for you to enjoy it. Whatever price you are paying now someone else also will enjoy it. Preparation in life is the preparation to solve life’s problems.

You can allow your problems to enlarge you. Experience in life is not measured by what happens to us, but what we do with what happens to us. When we master the art of solving problems, letting problems work for us and allowing our problems to grow us, we have mastered the art of successful living.

All the greats in the bible are known to solve problems through the power of the Almighty God. David killed Goliath by the power of God. Daniel interpreted the King’s dream as well as Joseph who preserved the posterity of Israel. The additional key here is these guys cultivated a relation with God before they faced the problems and the power of God was released through their lifestyle of faith and obedience to God.

Every problem is peculiar and has something about it to teach us about life and some necessary adjustments or lessons in particular.

Identify the real problem: Sometimes the obvious problem is not the real problem. The obvious may be a symptom of the real thing. The obvious may be a façade or a covering that veils the real one. Digging out to identify the real problem will go a long way to begin the process of solving the problem. What critics say is not usually the problem. Observers see the effect of the problem not the real problem. For instance a leadership problem may be seen as an issue that may seem to be independent of the leadership. Misbehaviour from someone in the organisation may be revelation of lack of clarity in the understanding of the vision of the organisation. A lack of adequate communication of the vision may be a leadership problem as opposed to its manifestation: misbehaviour of another person in the organisation. So identification of the real problem is a major step in solving the problem. Do not be deceived by a mere perception of the problem, find out the real issues involved.
Recognise your strength and weakness against the problem. Recognise your potentials also. Remember your potentials are limitless as you can develop in many areas. Our potentials in Christ are great. They need time to develop though. The present problem demands a present assessment of present strength and weakness. Some problems need an immediate, though necessarily temporary, solution and some need long term or permanent solution. Your strength may include relational involvement. That means some one you know may be in a better position to handle the problem, your ability to recognise and involve the other party is strength available to you. Identify possible consequences of the thoughts or plans for solving the problem.
Size up the problem so you can wise up. Are you ready to tackle this problem? Readiness is a state of mind. Sometimes we fail to take on a problem successfully simply because of the fear or doubt in our minds. There is a need to psychologically prepare ourselves to take on the challenges before us. We can see ourselves through the eyes of our opposition or we can see the problem through the eyes of our potentials in God. (Our potentials in God here mean what we have become because of God’s presence in our lives and what God has made us to be in Him.) Saul looked at himself through the eyes of Goliath while David saw Goliath through the eyes of his relationship with God. Many are defeated by their problems before they confront them. The mental attitude towards handling the problem must be positive if we want to see the problem solved.
Identify possible solutions. Many problems have more then one solution. Sorting out the best possible one becomes necessary. This is where rightness of timing and adequate preparation and considerations are important. The best solution will be the right one at the right time for the right result desired. Any solution other than the best may give a momentary relief without the real solution being arrived at.
Pick probable actions. Analysis can lead to paralysis if actions are not taken. The essence of meditating in the Word, keeping it in your mouth and mind is so that you may observe to DO it so You may make your way prosperous and have good success.(Joshua 1:8).
Trust God to see you through. Be prayerful and have a heart full of faith and anticipation of great outcome. God watches over his Word to perform it. Are you based on the Word in your actions, thoughts and words? Are you learning the right lessons? Is this problem bringing you closer to God? The God-factor in problems turns the problems into a learning process. We learn about God, His ways, His purposes in our situations and His power to make the difference in our lives. We need to cultivate a heart-dependence on God in every situation we face. By this we use our trials for our benefit spiritually.
Do what you have to do and give God all the glory for the successful outcome of the problem. Speak to the mountain, blast through the problem or dig a hole through it. Do what needs to be done to see the ‘head of Goliath come down’. ‘And it shall come to pass’, yes this problem shall also come to pass and become history to God’s glory.
