PROVERBS 20:27 SAYS THE SPIRIT OF A MAN IS THE CANDLE OF THE LORD-HE SEARCHES THE INWARD PARTS.
Psalms 18:28 "Thou will light my candle...” John 11:10 He who walks at night walks in Darkness for he has no light in him. Psalms 119:105 the entrance of the Word gives LIGHT and UNDERSTANDING to the simple. Darkness in spiritual terms is not an absence of natural light but an absence of understanding. Many grope in the dark today because there is no light inside them. Many judge the things of God by the natural circumstances of their lives, hence they miss God completely. The Psalmist cried out to God for his candle to be lit. Many of us need to cry out this prayer to God to light our candles again so that in His light we shall see light. Little wonder that Paul the apostle prayed for the Ephesians that God would ‘flood their hearts with light’. Though it is written in 1 Corinthians 4, that if our Gospel be hid it is hid to them whom the god of this world has blinded their minds, it seems to me that many believers mind need to be delivered from blindness in many aspects of their walk with the Lord. A lot of times when we run into problems we tend to blame things, people and every thing else never taking responsibility ourselves. This causes us not to learn the lessons we should learn from that experience. The psalmist cry, light my candle is a current cry for us today. His prayer was a product of a heart relationship with God so that he can see a thing the way God sees them. We need to interpret the circumstances in our lives in the light of God’s plans for our lives otherwise how would Joseph know that what was meant for evil God turned it around for Good. We would have blamed God for ‘allowing’ those things to happen to us and probably yielded to bitterness, and completely abort the process of God in our lives. Sometimes this light is so vital we need to know the right battles to fight lest we wear ourselves out fighting the wrong battles. Hatred is likened to murder and no murderer has light or life inside them. The true fight will be to get rid of the inner bitterness and hatred rather than fight an external enemy to get rid of the consequences of this sin in our lives. Our spirits are the candle of the Lord, His light comes by the entrance of His Word and our understanding gets flooded with light by the power of the Holy Spirit who grants us the revelation of His Word.. This light is the secret behind divine direction, understanding purpose and putting meaning into our lives’ experiences. As we expose our hearts to the Word, the light gets brighter and brighter by the operation of the Spirit of truth at work inside us. When the Word and the Spirit operate together Light manifests. As we read in Genesis, ‘Let there be light’ and there was. The Word was released and the Spirit was already brooding on the face of the deep. Light became a reality as God’s word interacted with His Spirit. The fact that the Word needs entrance suggests that it is not just hearing but receiving the Word that is necessary. What hinders the entrance of the Word? Strongholds! Strongholds are ‘houses of thoughts’ built over time in our minds that have the ability to hinder us from receiving truth. They form the preconceptions and proud arguments or reasoning that stand against proper acceptance and understanding of truth. Thoughts become, high things, high things become imaginations and after this stronghold s are formed. Strongholds have a strong hold on people’s lives. Sometimes it takes having crisis in our lives to get to the point where strongholds are confronted and maybe dealt with. It takes the weapons of warfare to pull down these strongholds and cast down imaginations. These weapons include the name of Jesus, the Word of the living God and the power of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit has a commitment to represent Christ and His Kingdom in our lives. Part of His role in our lives is to cause us to KNOW what has been freely given to us. When the Spirit of God and my human spirit have cause to meet, the part of me who knows me well and the Spirit that Knows God well, the counsel from this source is highly dependable. See 1 Cor.2:7-10. The word is a light unto my path and a lamp unto my feet. The path has been trodden by those who have gone ahead of me, the Holy Spirit inspires me with the lives of men and women in the bible showing me the path they took and helping me to know my path in my present day situation. When I face goliath, I know his head is coming off him; when I face betrayal, I keep my heart right knowing that God will fight for me. If I face ‘the red sea’ my rod in my hand will be ready for use at the command of God. My rod will be the quickened Word in my heart. I will keep looking inside for the direction He will give me to follow. The complete message can be ordered online at http://www.wisdomestore.com, at the online store.
