The purposes of the prophetic unction is to bring God's people into intimacy with Him; cause them to have spiritual understanding so they can receive divine direction, recognize what constitutes an obstacle to their walk with God and make the path smooth for Christ to come into their hearts. John the forerunner of Jesus Christ and the prophet Elijah both give us a picture of the office and unction of the prophet. John prepared for the Messiah's coming while Elijah removed the hindrances in the spirit for God's purposes in the land. One thing was common, confrontation was necessary. Hearts of people were confronted with the reality of what was in them. Demonic presence and control are manifested and enhanced by what people harbor in them. Elijah started by being alone in the presence of God to know the plans of God for his time. God's program was to bring judgment on the sins of the people to bring about a cleansing and restoration. The prophet is God's spoke person to release His Word for execution on earth. See 1Kings 17-19 and Matt. 1-3; Luke 1-2 Here are highlights from the Prophets' lives: · God's program is released through His mouthpiece - the prophet · They separate themselves from the prevailing mindset to acquire God's inner feelings · Their lifestyle is dictated by God's purpose rather than societal influence. These are usually opposites. · Their peculiar calling and lifestyle is blessed by God's provision in a peculiar way. All people who are walking by God's prophetic Word can expect peculiar provisions. · They exemplify God's process in their development. God's process leads to the fulfillment of His purposes. · The temperament of the prophets plays a part in their calling. God can use you if you make yourself available to Him no matter your temperament. · God prepares you for what He has prepared for you prophetically. Yield to His process. Every believer is to be prophetic. Hearing from God and allowing His WORD to dictate our lifestyle not the world molding. Every believer should cultivate intimacy with God not with the world. The scriptures should teach us how to relate with God and not become an end in themselves as we pride ourselves in knowledge of them. It is time to draw near to Him as He draws near to us. It is time for heart-operation in God. Rev. Kola Ewuosho
