We shall be looking at healings in the life and ministry of our Lord Jesus Christ. Since He is alive and well today can we expect Him to heal today? We seem to have a number of unanswered prayers where healing is concerned and so the tendency is to say, "If it be thy will". We need certainty on this subject. In the first chapter of the book of Mark, from verse 40 we read about the leper who was cleansed by God's power through our Lord Jesus. "If you are willing, you can make me clean". Many do not doubt God's ability but we are not sure if He is willing to heal us. Well, Jesus changed the man’s theology by answering him "I am willing, be cleansed". This should settle forever in our minds that God is willing. When we read the works of Jesus in bringing healing it is very easy to miss the message in the miracles. We get the impression that He went about with miraculous powers doling out healings to everyone no matter who they were. It was not so at all. He healed in their synagogues, in homes of people He knew and out in the open. The word frequently used to describe the healings in the ministry of Jesus is the root word from which we get therapy. So we get the picture that there were things people usually did to participate in the receiving of the healing. We also observe that healings usually took place after He had taught and preached sometimes before healing. In chapter 1 of the book of Mark verse 21-28, He entered the place to teach and He did so with authority. He cast out demons after that. He seems to be particular that some things are involved in administering healing: Faith, which comes by hearing and hearing by the Word; God watches over His Word to confirm it. Receiving of the Word precedes the receiving of healing. That implies that expectation born out of the hearing of faith and a doing of whatever it takes to receive as in therapy are involved in the manifestation of the healing power of God. There were those who placed a demand on the power of God in the life and ministry of Jesus like the woman with the issue of blood. She said she knew that if she touched the helm of His clothes she would be healed, she did and was healed. Bartimeaus shouted to get Jesus' attention then threw off his cloak to go receive his sight healed. Faith and action were involved. Are these things possible today? Yes. As we meditate in His word and pray trusting the Holy Spirit to anoint us afresh, we shall see His miracle power at work again. Amen. Rev Kola Ewuosho.
