We all start out in our walk with God wanting Him to do things for us and He does. After a while we see He has His ways of doing things. 3 John 2 says “Beloved I wish above all things that you prosper and be in health even as your soul prospers.” God’s way of doing things is through the prosperity of your soul. Your soul comprises of your will, mind and emotions. His Word was designed to prosper you by prospering your soul. What happens to our souls is our responsibility. Your soul is the seat of your personality. All your experiences make huge deposits in your soul. The good, the bad and ugly experiences have all made their presence felt in your soul. Many things are competing for the dominance of your soul. The works of the flesh also gain exposure through the soul too. Apostle James says we should lay aside all filthiness and the overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted Word, which is able to save our souls. James 1:21. The doers of the Word are the ones who are not self deceived. Many people are self-deceived as they hear but do not do the Word. Filthiness and wickedness are part of the effect of the fallen nature of man. We are to lay this aside and receive the implanted Word to save our souls. Acting, believing and confessing the Word of God is the ABC of seeing our souls prospers. Most of the instructions given in the Old Testament more designed to help people get in line with God’s way of doing things as the people cultivated a relationship with God. As they did this their souls prospered, ours should too. Joshua was told to keep the book and meditate day and night in it so he will be able to do all that is written in the book. Joshua 1:8. The psalmist also describes the man who delights and meditates in the Word of God as the one whom God will prosper as his leaves do not fail and he bears fruit in his season. Every successful character in the bible is an example of a prospered soul. Daniel surely was as well as Joseph and Moses. The following are attributes of a prosperous soul. A prosperous soul *Values what God values. He has a healthy regard for God’s Word and measures thought and study to the Word he hears. *Recognises God as the Source of all good things and worships Him alone as such. God will use people but they never take the place of God in their lives. A prosperous soul can tell the difference. *Understands that faithfulness in small things lead to great things. A prosperous soul stays faithful in the days of little beginnings. He does not allow discontentment to destroy God’s processes in him/her. *Understands the ways of God! It is nothing for God to save by many or by few. Knows that carriers of evil reports never enter the Promised Land. Will not allow self-centeredness to destroy a life of obedience to God. Faith pleases God any day. *Understands the seed principle. The Word is the seed for everything. Our thoughts are seeds for the words we speak, our words are seeds for our actions and our actions are seeds for our expectations in life. When we align our thoughts, words and actions with God’s Word then we are sure to win in life. *Understands the covenant lifestyle. God is a covenant keeping God and His demands on us are based on the provisions He made with our Lord Jesus Christ. As we commit to Him we experience His grace and power to meet all the challenges we face in life. He will never fail us. We love, meet others needs, use our gifts to benefit them and living by faith as a lifestyle. Always giving, loving and helping because of the covenant we have in Christ Jesus.
